Gauge 1 Boxes
Available in both top & end opening styles
1 September 2021
Since our last price adjustment 18 months ago on 1st January 2020, a lot has changed in the world we all live in. We’ve all had to cope with the Coronavirus era & the fallout from that. Unfortunately & inevitably, prices of materials during & after that time, have increased. All items supplied in the building & construction trade have become more scarce & therefore prices of materials have risen as they are less available than they were at this point before the pandemic. As an example of this, we are now paying £2 more for every one of the excellent handles we attach to our boxes. As well as that, timber prices & ironmongery prices have also risen. We refuse to compromise on quality & therefore you can be assured of a product from us to the same high standard as they have always been. Sadly though, a price adjustment has been necessary to continue to bring you the first rate item you have always expected from us. We would like to thank all our customers for their understanding on this subject.

How are the boxes made?
The boxes are designed to be strong enough for their use & at the same time, be as light as possible – we all know how heavy some of our loco’s can be!
If you’re attending a show or running session at a friends house, you might be carrying your stock a fair distance so the construction design was very important.
Each box follows the same tried & tested design & is built using a mixture of different thickness plywood. Timber cutting is achieved using laser guided technology.
Once the main box has been completed, it goes through the various stages of final finishing which includes staining. After this process, the hinges/catches & handle are added. The box is checked through ‘quality control’ & is then passed fit for service.
All the timber used in the boxes is sourced from fully sustainable forests. That means that for every tree that is cut down – another one is planted, often more.
How strong are our boxes?
This is Alan. He’s a big lad & we wouldn’t want to get on the wrong side of him!
Alan weighs 14 stone, so it’s a good job that our boxes are designed to take the weight!
We understand that Alan is available for other modelling jobs as well as posing for ‘Loco-Boxes’… Please contact Alan through Chris or Eileen, here at Loco-Boxes
